2013 NFL Mock Draft – January Edition 4.0

Follow me on Twitter (and let me know what you think): https://twitter.com/NFLDraft_JAM24

This is the latest version of my Mock Draft. In this mock, things change from my previous – as they will continue to change as things move forward.

Previous Mock on 01/15: http://joshmitchell24.wordpress.com/2013/01/15/2013-nfl-mock-draft-january-edition-3-0/

As the draft nears closer stay up-to-date with all the latest news and rankings regarding prospects stock as the evaluation process continues. Team needs are listed, and will change before April with Free-Agency looming in March – and that’ll have an impact on where players are selected as well. I have an extensive list of players ranked by position, as well a round based Big Board of draft eligible players. Both list are updated frequently.

Position Rankings: http://joshmitchell24.wordpress.com/2013/03/09/by-position-2013-nfl-draft-ranks/

BIG BOARD: http://joshmitchell24.wordpress.com/2013/03/10/the-big-board-the-top-2013-nfl-draft-prospects/

*My rankings do not always match the order I have players selected in mocks because teams draft based on their boards (not mine) and because players will never be chosen by a ‘labeled’ rank – and due to other various factors, including: scheme, fit, rising/falling, connections, and forecasting.

NFL MOCK DRAFT 4.0 (5 Rounds)
**with explanation of Top 10 picks.
****after player name is overall ranking on my Big Board
January 28, 2013

1st Round:

1. Chiefs (2-14) – Luke Joeckel, OT – Texas A&M; *Junior 6’6″ 310 (No.1)
QB is the top priority and I’m torn with with Joeckel and Geno Smith (or maybe Wilson eventually). It’s really too early to tell, but I’m still not buying into the ‘Top Prospect’ scenario – I just think Joeckel is a good fit if they address the QB issue in Free-Agency or later in draft.
Needs: QB, 3/4 DE, No.1 WR, MLBx2, CB, Slot-WR, OG, OT, Rush-OLB, RB, C, FS, FB, TE

2. Jaguars (2-14) – Bjoern Werner, DE – Florida State; *Junior: 6’4″ 258 (No.3)
Werner could fall a bit, but I think it’ll come down to him, D.Moore, or Ja.Jones here. I find it hard to believe they’ll draft another DE this high, but claiming Jason Babin made it clear that the position needs to be addressed. Joeckel could be an option as well.
Needs: 4/3 DE, 4/3 OLB, RT, CB, RB, QB, LG, 4/3 DT, FS, C, TE, WR, FB

3. Raiders (4-12) – Damontre Moore, DE/OLB – Texas A&M; *Junior: 6’4″ 250 (No.4)
They need help along the front 7, and I think some speed to the unit is a must. They have big-bodied lineman so adding a rush presence is a huge need. Moore, Werner, Jones, or even a rising prospect like Dion Jordan could be in the mix if they choose to address this need.
Needs: 4/3 DT, 4/3 DE, 4/3 OLBx2, CB, QB, OG, RT, FS, TE, MLB, SS, C, RB, LT, P

4. Eagles (4-12) – Star Lotulelei, DT/NT – Utah; Senior: 6’3″ 320 (No.2)
They may look to a move to the 3/4, but regardless – Loutulelei fill s a need alongside last years No.1 Fletcher Cox since Cullen Jenkins is likely to be cut. Geno Smith could be in play, and certainly Joeckel will receive high consideration should he be available.
Needs: RT, CBx2, Big-WR, SS, 4/3 DT, C, QB, 4/3 DE, 4/3 OLB, TE, FS, P, OG

5. Lions (4-12) – Dion Jordan, DE/OLB – Oregon; Senior: 6’6″ 242 (No.11)
If they hold onto Cliff Avril I think they’ll end up deciding between Dee Milliner or Jarvis Jones. Jordan a good fit with Avril set to test the open market and Vanden Bosch a possible cap casualty (and aging). Werner or Moore would be better – but him, Ansah or Mingo would be good.
Needs: 4/3 OLBx2, CB, 4/3 DE, FS, C, RG, RT, WR, K, RB, P, SS

6. Browns (5-11) – Jarvis Jones, OLB/DE – Georgia; *Junior: 6’2″ 242 (No.6)
I wouldn’t be surprised if Geno Smith was a surprise candidate here (new HC Rob Chudzinski could be looking for a new QB if he isn’t set on Weeden). I think it’ll ultimately come down to Jones or Warmack – with Jarvis Jones the better value, but trading back could offer even more value.
Needs: 4/3 OLB, OG, 4/3 DE, CB, WRx2, SS, RT, FS, 4/3 DT, TE

7. Arizona (5-11) – DJ Fluker, OT – Alabama; *Junior: 6’6″ 335 (No. 21)
It would seem E.fisher would be a better option, but I have a feeling Fluker will move into Top 15 contention (I was high on him prior to the 2012 NCAA season) because of skill set. Fluker seems like a reach now, but only time will tell – I wouldn’t count out G.Smith or Tyler Wilson either.
Needs: QB, LT, 3/4 OLB, MLB, CB, 3/4 DT, C, 3/4 DE, FS, RB, Slot-WR, SS, TE

8. Bills (6-10) – Geno Smith, QB – WVU; Senior: 6’3″ 220 (No.18)
I think they’d prefer a QB and it just so happens to be Geno in this spot. It may be Wilson or even Mike Glennon, but Smith is the leader at this point. They may go elsewhere here – Te’o would be a realistic option – and grab Ryan Nassib (of Syracuse, new HC’s Doug Marrone’s college QB) in Round 2 (or by trading back up into 1st if his stocks values it). If not a QB they’d probably have to reach for help with Manti Te’o or Cordarrelle Patterson here.
Needs: QBx2, Big-WR, 4/3 OLBx2, 4/3 DE, Slot-WR, CB, TE, LT, MLB, C, SS, FB

9. Jets (6-10) – Eric Fisher, OT – Central Mich.; Senior: 6’7″ 305 (No.9)
They need pieces around Sanchez if he’s there guy, but they also need to protect him. Fisher won’t be the flashiest selection, but a RT upgrade is a desperate need. They may opt for Keke Mingo, Ansah, Chance Warmack, K.Vaccaro, or Dee Milliner (if they trade Revis) under this scenario as well. I also wouldn’t disregard Manti Te’o, but it’d be hard to let Fisher go by.
Needs: RT, 3/4 OLBx2, OGx2, No.1 WR, RB, FS, MLB, CB, TE, 3/4 DT, QB, SS, WR, FB

10. Titans (6-10) – Sheldon Richardson, DT/DE – Missouri; *Junior: 6’3″ 295 (No.8)
With Milliner and Warmack available it’d seem like Richardson is a surprise – but I warn you, he is not. Richardson should be in high demand among teams selecting from No.3 to No.18 and is a nice combo option. He fits a need in Tennessee with Sen’Derrick Marks set to become an UFA.
Needs: 4/3 DT, OG, 4/3 DE, TE, FS, RT, RB, CB, MLBx2, LT, WR, SS, FB

11. Chargers (7-9) – Chance Warmack, OG – Alabama; Senior: 6’2″ 322 (No.5)
Needs: CB, OG, LT, 3/4 DT, No.1 WR, TE, 3/4 OLB, RBx2, SS, MLB, RT, C, QB

12. Dolphins (7-9) – Cordarrelle Patterson, WR – Tennessee; *Junior: 6’3″ 205 (No.14)
Needs: No.1 WR, FS, 4/3 DT, RT, CB, RB, OG, 4/3 OLB, WRx2, C, LT, 4/3 DE, MLB, TE

13. Tampa Bay (7-9) – DeMarcus ‘Dee’ Milliner, CB – Alabama; *Junior: 6’1″ 198 (No.7)
Needs: 4/3 DT, FS, CBx2, RT, 4/3 DE, Slot-WR, 4/3 OLB, MLB, QB, TE, OG, WR

14. Carolina (7-9) – Alec Ogletree, MLB/OLB – Georgia; *Junior 6’3″ 235 (No.19)
Needs: 4/3 DT, No.1 WR, CB, RT, 4/3 OLB, OG, FS, MLB, TE WR, SS, 4/3 DE

15. Saints (7-9) – Johnathan Hankins, DT/NT – Ohio State; *Junior: 6’3″ 325 (No.13)
Needs: 3/4 DT, 3/4 OLB, SS, 3/4 DE, LT, CB, RT, WR, MLB, FS, OG, C, TE

16. Rams (7-8-1) – Kenny Vaccaro, FS/SS – Texas; Senior: 6’1″ 218 (No.12)
Needs: 4/3 OLBx2, No.1 WR, LT, RBx2, SS, TE, OG, RT, 4/3 DT, FS, QB, DE, MLB

Needs: RB, FS, MLB, LT, CB, WR, 3/4 OLB, SS, OG, TE, QB
